Port of Monfalcone, rail transport of slabs starts again

MONFALCONE - In addition to the recently-allocated funds for sea transport, the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region also finances the railway handling service of slabs from the Port of Monfalcone.
Such allocations have been raised to a total amount of 800,000 euros, in order to fund the service for the 2019-20 two-year period. This will avoid the transit on the regional road network of about 20,000 heavy vehicles. Transporting slabs only by road is no longer sustainable, stated by the Regional Councillor for Transport. Therefore rail transport aims at double result: reducing road wear and carbon dioxide emission. This service is provided by Inter-rail spa, which has been assigned a regional contribution to reduce the costs of using trains to transfer metal semi-finished products.
